244 -- Not Elephant or Donkey, But Lion
Saturday in Godsfield -- Be Psalm 54 -- September 21 ,2024
"Save me O God by your Name, in your might, defend my cause."Â
I might call Psalm 54, and that is the opening verse, Â the election campaign psalm.
"For the arrogant have risen up against me, and the ruthless have sought my life; those who have no regard for God." -- verse 3.
There is arrogance and ruthlessness all over the map these days, it escapes no elecrtonic device, and spills into every avenue and venue, or so it seems.
"Render evil to those who spy on me, in your faithfulness, destroy them." -- verse 5.
We who are in battleground states find no peace, only accusations and exaggerations and finger-pointing and invasion of privacy and obstruction of the desire to live in peace with our neighbors.
It is not one or the other that will save, it is the Lord who will save, who will rescue me and you from every trouble.Â
It is not red or blue that will decide our fate, but the white of the transfigured's robe, the blood that washes us clean, such that no fuller's soap can do, as Mark 9 narrates.
It is not an elephant or donkey that will lead us, but the Lion.
And the Lamb.
"I will offer you a freewill sacrifice, and praise your name, O Lord, for it is good." -- verse 6.
Oh yes, there is a difference in the choices, and it does matter greatly, but what matters most is the choice of praising the one in whom rests all of Creation and all of salvation.
Today I will be Psalm 54, and I will set aside the arrogance and ruthlessness I see in myself from being caught up in the chaos of the day, and will "behold God, who is my helper; the Lord, who sustains my life." -- verse 4.
Love ya,
Paul
