(For Better or Verse: Each day in 2025 I will begin this Godsfield e-mail with a Bible verse that corresponds with the month (chapter 1-12) and day (verse 1-31) it is sent. This month features a lot of fourth chapters! Those with eyes and ears, let them see and hear.)
Exodus 4:28 Then Moses told Aaron everything the Lord had sent him to say, and also about all the signs he had commanded him to perform.
Simple enough, this verse, picked out of all of scripture because it is the only 28th verse of a fourth chapter that had cross-stitch potential, and even that, I wouldn't feel obligated to hang it on my kitchen wall.
Especially with all the crazy stuff that precedes it.
Moses and God have had a long conversation up on the mountain, next to a burning unburning bush. It was a much longer conversation than it needed to be, because Moses was trying to talk God out of the plan. Why me? I can't talk. Who are you really? Why would anyone believe me? I don't even like milk and honey; you know I'm lactose intolerant. Why not ask Charlton Heston? He'd do this for you.
Oh, it is painful to read; even the Lord gets angry at ol' Mo and finally brings Moses' brother on the scene to be the voice of Moses, who apparently had a speech impediment, although he he certainly had no trouble holding up his end of the conversation with Yahweh (YHWH is the official Hebrew English way to write it.)
Finally, after explaining the plan, the name, the signs and the reasoning, the Lord rolls His eyes and says, "Fine, here comes Aaron, I will make his first vice president in charge of public relations."
And one verse after God is about to kill Moses for not circumcising his newborn son -- his wife did it and saved Moses in the nick of time (yes, it's all there! I don't remember Charlton Heston going through all that), God fetches Aaron for a sit down with his brother and "viola!' Here we are at verse 28, a nice little pow-wow between brothers preparing to guide God's people out of slavery.
Lord, help us all.
Oh, I guess that's what He did!
Love ya,
Paul
