(For Better or Verse: Each day in 2025 I will begin this Godsfield e-mail with a Bible verse that corresponds with the month (chapter 1-12) and day (verse 1-31) it is sent. This month features a lot of seventh chapters! Those with eyes and ears, let them see and hear.)
Psalm 7:11 — God is a righteous judge, a God who displays his wrath every day.
WRATH -- When Regular Anger Turns Holy
The wrath of God is often viewed as destructive and over the top, complete and ruinous, and thereby painting God as vicious and vindictive.
The wrath of God is holy and righteous, not satisfying to the soul, but just.
When children act up and are defiant to the point of the parent or other responsible adult must step in and enact justice, the time-outs, groundings and raised voices are not actions that are desired, but required.
And although this is an awareness that this discipline may prevent further straying or worse defiance, no one is happy about using wrath to bring justice; it is a last resort, brought on by those who refuse to see the signs that could have steered them away from wrongdoing.
The wrath of God is on display daily for those who know what they are looking at; but knowing what is defiance of God and stepping away from it, also allows us to see what is desirous of God, and stepping toward it.
Make no mistake. We are responsible for ourselves and our action. But hear with joy, we are able to respond to the charge of the Spirit, the grace that covers our misdeeds and the love that God showers on those who seek His face.
Just like the parent who prefers to hug and caress and disciple a child rather than confront, correct and discipline, God responds in whatever way will bring us to the place of peace, to His arms of protection and love.
With Righteous Anger, Timely Hope.
The fear of God is knowing that God has the power and reason to squash us like a bug for our behavior; the love of God is knowing that because of the actions, the sacrifice of His Son Jesus, He won't.
The wrath is real. So is the grace.
Love ya,
Paul
